Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
TallyTrip is built on the belief that your data is yours. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. By using TallyTrip, you agree to the practices described here.
Who we are
TallyTrip is an independent app developed and maintained by a solo developer. TallyTrip is the first in a planned family of apps. For questions about this policy, contact us at: hello.tallytrip@gmail.com
Information we collect
Information you provide directly:
- Name and email address when you create an account
- Trip details including destination, dates, and traveler count
- Booking confirmations and travel documents you upload for scanning
- Expense records including amounts, categories, vendors, and notes
- Journal entries including text and photos you write and upload
- Feedback messages you send through the app
Information collected automatically:
- Device type and operating system version (included automatically with feedback submissions)
- App version number (included automatically with feedback submissions)
Information from third-party services:
- If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from those services. We do not receive your password.
- Location data when you search for activity locations using the location field — this is processed by Google Places API and we store only the place name, address, and coordinates you select.
How we use your information
We use your information solely to provide and improve TallyTrip:
- To create and manage your account
- To store and sync your trips, expenses, and journal entries across your devices
- To scan booking confirmations and receipts using AI — uploaded images are sent to Google's Gemini API for processing and are not stored by us beyond what is saved to your account
- To display destination photos automatically using the Unsplash API — your destination name is sent to Unsplash to retrieve a relevant photo
- To enable location search using Google Places API when you add activities to your itinerary
- To respond to feedback you send us
- To fix bugs and improve the app
How we store your information
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase — a cloud infrastructure platform that provides industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. Your trips, expenses, and journal entries are stored in Firebase Firestore. Photos and documents you upload are stored in Firebase Storage.
Sharing your data
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We share your data only with the following service providers, solely to operate the app:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, and file storage
- Google Places API — location search for activity planning
- Google Gemini API — AI processing of booking confirmation documents and receipt photos
- Unsplash — destination photo retrieval based on trip destination name
Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
Trip sharing
When you choose to share a trip via a read-only link, the Plan, Tally, and Journal content of that trip becomes accessible to anyone with the link. You can revoke the link at any time from your trip settings. Private journal entries are never included in shared links regardless of your sharing settings.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data — available in Settings → Delete Account
- Export your expense data as PDF or CSV (TallyTrip Plus feature)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at: hello.tallytrip@gmail.com
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently deleted within 30 days. Feedback messages are retained for up to 12 months.
Children's privacy
TallyTrip is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of TallyTrip after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
